Clinical Services - Community Health Nurse – Cultural Diversity

The Community Health Nurse responsible for the health care of refugees, newly arrived to Ballarat is located at the Sebastopol site of BCH.

The nurse is a support to both refugee clients and to GP’s or specialists who have refugee clients.  The support includes assisting clients to find a GP, and then teaching clients how and where to go to maintain their health, or to carry out specific instructions following a GP appointment.

Alternatively, the nurse is available to GP’s to follow up clients that they feel will need help with their health care or specific health care issues.

The role also involves health education in many areas including -

  • catch up immunizations (assisting to ensure all catch up immunizations occur),
  • nutrition,
  • sexual health,
  • Vitamin D deficiency,

..... to name a few.
