Clinical Services - Dietetics

Ballarat Community Health's Nutrition & Dietetics Service aims to promote health and wellbeing by empowering the community to make proactive good nutritional choices.

Dietary Counselling
Dietary consultations are available for those who are ready to look at improving their health, wellbeing and chronic disease management by looking at improved nutritional intake and strategies to improve food intake into the future.

Health Promotion
Ballarat Community Health is also involved in many health promotion activities in the region and a dietitian may be available to attend events promoting proactive change within the Ballarat community and help promote healthy eating and good nutrition.

Healthy Lifestyle Programs
Community Health runs many programs to improve the community’s awareness of nutrition and the importance of healthy lifestyles:

Healthy Weight Loss for Men
The program is designed especially for men and focuses on areas which are important to improve health and wellbeing and aid in weight loss. The program runs over 7 weeks and covers many areas relating to behaviour change, while also looking at adapting what we eat to improve the amount of food we consume, appropriate alcohol consumption, cooking, recipe modification, and physical activity.

Healthy Weight Loss for Women
A program specifically for women, and focuses on areas which are important to improve health and wellbeing and aid in weight loss. The program runs over 6 weeks and covers many areas relating to behaviour change, self esteem and motivation, while also looking at adapting what we eat to improve the amount of food we consume, appropriate alcohol consumption, cooking, recipe modification, and physical activity.

Caring for Diabetes Education Program
A six week program for individuals or carers to assist with managing Type 2 Diabetes.  Topics include food choices for diabetes, benefits of exercise, changing behaviour, medications and foot care.

Diabetes Supermarket Tours
Join a group at a local supermarket with one of the dietitians from Ballarat Community Health to learn how to read food labels so you can make informed healthy choices when shopping at the supermarket.

The tour goes for two hours, and make sure you bring your reading glasses.
