IHSHY

IHSHY - Innovative Health Services for Homeless Youth.

IHSHY works within a community development framework to better address the broad health needs, including mental health, of homeless young people, by providing information and training to workers and facilitating networks to develop and deliver these services. The goal is to establish better linkages, information exchange, mutual understanding and co-operative working relationships between young people and health/mental health services.

Please click here to download The Moving In Cook Book

The Movin’ in Cook Book is designed to provide young people with simple, cost effective, nutritious and tasty meals that they can prepare and cook with limited equipment from their own homes. It contains over 40 recipes, nutritional information, shopping hints, explanations of terms and equipment, details for hygienic practices, preparation and the storage of food as well as other useful information. The book is also suitable for general use by every one of all ages.

Creating Connections

Creating Connections offers a voluntary program for young people 15-25yrs who are at risk of homelessness/homeless focusing on increasing access to and support with employment, education and training opportunities and life and living skills. The focus is on early intervention, consistency for assessment and referral pathways and tailored approaches to support young people moving out of the homelessness sector.

Youth Support Service

Youth Support Service is a voluntary program for young people 10-18yr of age at risk of involvement with Youth Justice providing case management and intervention within the young person’s family and community context. It offers outreach, early intervention and diversion from the justice system. The program aims to decrease young people’s involvement in offending and support in achieving a positive future.

HYDDI - Homeless Youth Dual Diagnosis

HYDDI Homeless Youth Dual Diagnosis Initiative is a specialized service offering clinical intervention for young people (15-25yr) and who are homeless and have emerging mental health concerns and substance use issues This service is a joint collaboration between Ballarat Health Services and Ballarat Community Health and offers capacity building within the homelessness sector and a secondary consult opportunity for other service providers.

Karrung

Karrung is a Foyer Like Program offering innovative responses to youth homelessness supporting young people in a long term residential accommodation program.

It is managed and governed by a consortium which ensures collaborative and integrative service provision.  This program offers supports for education, life skills, social inclusion, mentoring etc. Based on the Outcome Star model of support that considers all factors of a young person’s life and then utilises positive strategies in which to address their issues.
